Back from Hiatus

It's Memorial Day 2012 and I just registered my domain name (again). Before I host it on either Blogger or WordPress, I want to test out the sites for features and ease of customizing my pages. If all else fails, I'll have to rely on a friend of mine to host my site. I figure since I need to get back in to web designs, I need to get familiar with different environments and interfaces. I also want to start updating certain blogs and websites regularly. I'm trying to move away from most of the social media sites just so I can maintain a little more control of my content. We'll see how it goes. Fighting!

Just because...

It's been hella long since I've made a new post, so I'm doing it now (partly because I'm tired of reading tiny font about marihuana users for soc).

Grandma's surprise 80th birthday party was awesome possum. Things turned out great, even though she looked all pissed after everyone yelled, "surprise!" She didn't seem to grasp the concept of "surprise" and that it was for her 'till after a while. BTW, Uncle Francis, I'm waiting on those pictures of her party.

Jaylie's birthday gathering was fun too. That girl is getting BIG. I still don't understand why she made me hold Dora's shoe and told me it wasn't Dora's shoe when it actually was. Kee & I learned that Alana does NOT like being called a boy. haha

Kayla's surprise 18th birthday party was a success. She finally had a surprise birthday party after 18 years! hahaha Her reaction was great and we surprisingly fit hella people in that tiny room. Geeze, that was amazing. haha That party was worth all her attitude and being pissed for thinking Jaylie was having a party the same weekend she was planning to have hers.

New Years with the famz was great as always. Even got to video chat with Paul, Jackie, and the little ones. =] That was fun. The group seemed smaller, but I, personally, still had a lot of fun. I guess it's true when people say quantity not quality.

Mishal's 22th birthday kinda sorta came and went. Sorry, Shal! There wasn't really a big party...her birthday was on a Tuesday. For me, that was the same week finals was starting so I didn't really get to go back home and celebrate. I'm pretty sure she had a great time, though! Well hopefully. hahaha

Currently, I'm just in my dorm, supposedly reading and studying. Maybe not so much, though. Last night I went to watch "Milk" with a few people from my floor. Great movie & it makes me want to spend a day in S.F. I think everyone should watch it. =]

Kayla's Hero: Mozart

Well, for those of you who didn't know, Kayla was in the hospital on March 23, just after midnight. She was in there for three days with a case of viral meningitis. Thank God she's fine now. I must say, it was one of the most scariest times we have experienced.

The interesting part of all this is Mozart, the unlikely hero. If it wasn't for him, we probably would not have found Kayla passed out and unconscious. Who knows how long she would have been unconscious and perhaps suffered some long-term damage.

It all started on Saturday night after dinner. We had a late supper (after 9pm) and went into our room to watch T.V. Mishal and Tati followed us to the room to watch as well. Kayla went to bed and was talking on the phone. She said she wasn't feeling too good and she thought she was getting the flu. Mom just got home from the "Valley" and went to bed early. I think it was around 10:30PM when Mozart started to bark. I'm guessing at this point that he wants to go out for his nightly duty. As soon as I opened the door to our room, he darted towards Kayla's room so I followed him. He never acted like this before. So I followed him to try to get him to go by the back door.

As I came into Kayla's room, Mozart jumped right on Kayla's bed, something he NEVER does. It was weird because I yelled at him to get off, which he did but did not run away. He just started to bark. That's when I noticed that Kayla did not yell at him, something like "Stupid dog, get off my bed!" as she normally would have. When I looked towards Kayla, that's when I realized something was wrong. She was slumped over on the side of her bed partially on the desk next to her. She was also making a "snoring" sound but it didn't sound right. Thinking she was just asleep, I tried waking her up. She wasn't responding and Mozart was going crazy barking and jumping on my back. I started yelling and that's when Mom and Tati came to see what was wrong. I told Tati that something was wrong with Kayla and to call her mom and put Mozart in the crate. Debbie and Mishal came out screaming and everything was in chaos.

Debbie called 911 and I carried Kayla from her bed to the living room. She was not responding to any of us calling her name but at least she was still breathing. The paramedics where there a few minutes later but it seemed like forever. It's hard to explain the feeling of helplessness as I was holding Kayla. We didn't know what was wrong or what to do.

During the ride in the ambulance, Kayla was coming to but was totally out of it. She could not remember anything that happened. She was very incoherent through the whole ride and even when we got to the hospital. When we finally arrived, they started running some test by drawing blood. It was about 11:30pm now. Based on her symptoms, they took a precaution and made her wear a mask because they thought it might be meningitis.

So five and a half hours later (5:30am), they performed a spinal tap to see if it was meningitis. The test results came back positive after 8:00am. We were now waiting for a room which didn't become available until after 12:00 Sunday afternoon. Kayla was in isolation for her stay at the hospital. All visitors had to wear gloves and a mask. She was put on antibiotics for the virus.

Wednesday afternoon, her Infectious Disease Specialist cleared her to go home. During her stay, she had lots of family and friends who visited. She was still nauseas for at least a week but eventually recovered fully.

We would like to thank everyone who visited and kept her in our prayers. Kayla is doing fine now and we have a lot to be thankful for, especially for our unlikely hero, Mozart.
